Easy Snacks

Shotgun season happens twice a year and are the weekends hunters most look forward to. Alex is off to spend his weekend in the woods and very little time indoors--so snacks must be simple, easy to carry, and noiseless. Even though my goal was to serve hunters, these snacks would be great for school, children's birthday parties, car rides, or vacations.

Easy. Simple. Delicious.

So after brainstorming some snack ideas, I came up with the following:

1. Peanut Butter Kiss Cookies

2. S'mores Chex-Mix

3. Bologna Ketchup Sandwiches

Peanut Butter Kiss Cookies

First, I made the Peanut Butter Kiss Cookies. This recipe has been passed down in my family and is a favorite at Thanksgiving and Christmas parties. Since this weekend is quite chilly, nothing warms a belly like peanut butter and chocolate. :-)

Ingredients:

3 1/2 c. flour 1 c Crisco

2 tsp. baking soda 1 c. peanut butter

1 tsp. salt 2 eggs

1 c. white sugar 4 T. milk

1 c. brown sugar 2 tsp. vanilla

-Mix all ingredients together --I start with the Crisco and peanut butter to make sure the peanut butter is nice and smooth before adding in all ingredients.

Once all of the ingredients are mixed together and the dough is thick, you will start rolling the dough into balls. (*You can dip the dough balls into sugar, but this time I decided not to dip the dough into sugar. It's your choice.)

*Place one pan at a time into the oven for 10 minutes at 375 degrees. **Because each oven is different, you may have to change your time.

Once the 10 minutes is over, take the dough out of the oven and place an unwrapped kiss on immediately.

*Let the cookies cool and then place into a container! Make sure the cookies are cool first, otherwise the chocolate kiss will be too warm and smoosh down.

*Continue with the rest of your dough!

Next is probably the easiest "recipe" you'll ever make & it's pretty tasty!! (actually very tasty)

S'mores Chex Mix

Ingredients:

-Milk chocolate chips

-Mini Marshmellows

-Golden Grahams Cereal

Directions: Mix away!

*Now that the three ingredients have mixed, you can now put them into zip lock bags. Easy, right!? This one bowl can make many full ziplock bags. Which means you may only have to make a school snack once a week :-)

Bologna Ketchup Sandwiches

I'm not going to lie, when I first heard about this recipe from Mr. Hunter himself, I thought it sounded extremely disgusting. Oh me, it was delicious! Again, simple and easy (and probably not healthy).

Ingredients:

-Bologna

-American Cheese

-Ketchup

-Bread slices

Each sandwich gets two slices of bologna and two slices of American cheese.

-------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

All three of these recipes only took about an hour and a half of my evening. Granted--I don't have children, but I thought that went pretty swiftly. What took the most time, was taking the cookies out of the oven, rolling the dough, placing the chocolate kisses onto the baked cookies, and waiting for the cookies to cool.

Here is the end result from the evening's baking session! I added some beef jerky and chips into the bunch, because there needed to be some salty additions.

Enjoy!
