Huckleberry Pie Recipe

The Adventures of Huckleberry Finn by Mark Twain is one of my favorite books that I've ever read, so when I heard that there was a recipe called "Huckleberry Pie" I knew I'd have to try it out. Nothing reminds me more of summer than a delicious pie and one of the greatest American stories ever written.

Like usual, I did some research on Pinterest and stumbled upon this Huckleberry Pie recipe by the Crave Editorial Team:

Ingredients: 1 recipe Pie Dough 3/4 cup plus 5 Tbs. all-purpose flour 2/3 cup firmly packed light brown sugar 1/3 cup plus 1 Tbs. granulated sugar 2 tsp. ground cinnamon 1/8 tsp. salt 8 Tbs. (1 stick) cold unsalted butter, cut into 3/4- inch pieces 5 cups huckleberries or blueberries

Oven Temperature: 400 degrees

Everyone has their preferences for pie dough, so I will simply share pie dough directions, but feel free to email or comment if you would like the recipe I use. I love making pie dough -- just liking making bread, it's a calming experience!

Poke holes at the bottom of the crust to let the crust air out. Also, instead of baking the crust for the whole 10 minutes, I only baked the crust for 5 minutes. That way it doesn't over-bake.

Next wash the huckleberries or blueberries. Make sure there are no stems left on the berries.

Topping

"Stir together the 3/4 cup flour, 1/3 cup of the brown sugar, the 1/3 cup granulated sugar, 1 tsp. of the cinnamon and the salt. Scatter the butter pieces on top and toss with a fork or your fingers to coat with the flour mixture."

Filling with the Blueberries

"Combine the blueberries, the remaining 1/3 cup brown sugar, the remaining 1 tsp. cinnamon and 4 Tbs. of the flour. Stir gently to coat the blueberries evenly. Sprinkle the remaining 1 Tbs. flour and the 1 Tbs. granulated sugar over the bottom of the prebaked crust. Pour the filling into the crust, spreading it evenly."

Before pouring in the blueberry mix, make sure to coat your pie crust with butter/milk to prevent the shell from burning.

Add the topping to the pie:

Bake the pie for 50-60 minutes. (I only baked it for 50 minutes).

* A method I use to prevent the pie crust from burning, is to place the pie pan on a cookie sheet.

Boy, did this smell heavenly while baking!

Everything tastes better with some ice-cream!

This Huckleberry pie recipe was quite easy to make and was full of flavors! My first time making the pie and eating it, was quite enjoyable. It almost reminded me of a cobbler, and I would recommend this pie to all of you! Will be making again!
